A new direction can mean a different job, more responsibility in your current role, freelance work or your own business. Decide which one you want to test first.

Choose the route

If you want employment, look at real job descriptions and identify repeated tasks you could learn to do. Jobs you can do with AI skills gives you examples of roles and skills to investigate.

If you want a business, start with the customer and the result they need. How could you make money using AI? covers services, products and everyday businesses.

Build something you can explain

Create a small project with a clear purpose, such as a Base44 enquiry workflow or client portal using fictional data. Document the problem, what you built, how you tested it and what you would improve.

A finished example you understand is more useful than a large app you cannot maintain. Build a portfolio that shows what you can do explains how to present it.

Test the next step in the real world

For a job move, compare your example with the requirements in current vacancies. Update your CV with specific tasks and results, then practise explaining the decisions you made.

For a business, talk to potential customers and try a carefully scoped paid project. Track actual costs, delivery hours and payment delays. An interested comment is not the same as a paid order.

Work out what the transition needs

Write down essential monthly spending, existing income, business costs and the amount of time you can give this route. Include learning time and space for setbacks.

The income planner can help with a small business offer. It does not model a salary, benefits, personal tax or your household finances. Use the relevant local guidance when comparing employment and self-employment.

Set a review point

Choose a date to review evidence: finished work, applications, interviews, customer conversations or paid projects. Keep the question practical: what did you learn, what is working and what should change?

You do not need to decide your entire future today. Choose one project or conversation that helps you assess your next move.
